University of Melbourne (known as Melbourne University) is a public university located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
History[]
It was established by Hugh Childers on January 22, 1853 with power to confer degrees in arts, medicine, laws and music. Classes began in 1855 with three professors and sixteen students with only four graduating.
In 1881, the admission of women was seen as a victory.
The university celebrated their 150th anniversary in 2003.
