Anne Lang is an unseen character in the Lilydale series.
She is the great-granddaughter of Avery Lang, the former governor of Massachusetts. She worked for a variety of non-profit environmental organisations throughout the 1970s. She joined the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1980. While at the EPA, she was responsible for a number of policy initiatives including the National Wetland Preservation Project and the Ogallala Aquifer Deep Survey.
Following the death of her father in 1985, she inherited a sizeable personal fortune. She soon left the EPA in 1992 to act as an administrator of the International Rainforest Fund but returned to the Federal Government in 1996 when she was appointed as Presidential Science Advisor. She has powerful contacts in both the government and environmental lobby and has a reputation for accomplishing the impossible.
